The Garamia Foundation's aim is to provide Centres for treatment,
information, support, and education in complementary medicine for
all who ask regardless of their financial means. It was registered
in the Autumn of 1996 as The Garamia Foundation with the Charity
Commission, and later in January 2002 as a Trust.
Why Garamia?
Archangel GABRIEL, interpreter of dreams, interceder
for the oppressed, the angel of truth, hope, and revelations, of
creativity and the arts, of love and all our relationships, provided
the basis for the name.
A special and courageous lady called Jenny, who began her life in
St .Gabriel's Home, and lives wheelchair bound, hoping for a life
without painkillers, together with a caring and enlightened consultant
physician (Dr. Gabby Chadwick), cemented the idea.
Then we found there was already a Gabriel Foundation, so we added
RAPHAEL, for healing, and MICHAEL
for peace, harmony, and global co-operation. Michael also reminds
us we are often so busy looking for answers; we forget the importance
of asking the right questions. Add to these the Angelic
Host and we have GA-RA-MI-A, Garamia.
The Garamia Foundation incorporates the following:
- Paignton Natural Health Centre
, the first
of the Centres for treatment was founded in 1990, for the
relief of sickness by the practice, support, and promotion of healing,
by natural therapeutics, designed
to reduce human suffering and distress'. This now forms the treatment
side of Garamia.
- The Garamia Foundation School of Complementary Medicine
was formally added in April 1997, though
Courses and Workshops in Complementary Medicine have been in operation
at the Centre since 1991. Diploma Courses in Anatomy and Physiology,
Aromatherapy, Flower Essences, Massage and Reflexology, are offered,
as well as short courses in Relaxation, Spiritual Development, and
Meditation and various Workshops. All diploma courses are affiliated
to the ICM.
- The Garamia Advocacy Service
was added in July 1998 to help and support
anyone who for whatever reason is experiencing difficulty in voicing
their needs and wishes to statutory services. Health, education,
and social issues are supported.
- The Garamia Stroke Rehabilitation and Support Service
was initiated in October 1998 because of
the difficulties experienced by stroke patients in receiving on-going
treatment and carers receiving support, and also because of the
innovative and dynamic work of Walter Kocken, Reflexologist at Paignton
Natural Health Centre. |
