Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a structure of mucopolysaccharide composed of hydrophilic molecules of Glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine which bind water and lubricate moveable parts of the human body, especially joints and muscles.  It is so called ‘nature’s moisturiser’ for its incredible moisturising properties especially when used in skin-care products.  HA also cushions nerves and ends of bones and forms a barrier against the spread of disease.

Viridian utilise a vegan form of Hyaluronic Acid produced by fermentation processes rather than an animal derived product (typically rooster combs or chicken sternum).

How does Hyaluronic Acid compare to glucosamine or chondroitin?
Glucosamine is a precursor of Hyaluronic Acid.  Hyaluronic Acid in turn is utilised for the production and synthesis of important cushioning and moisturising compounds such as synovial fluid.  Glucosamine combines with a glucuronic acid molecule to make Hyaluronic Acid.  Often the body is not able to join these two molecules together and the production of the much needed Hyaluronic Acid is limited. Oral supplementation of Hyaluronic Acid maximises the availability of this compound, thus enhancing the body’s regenerative potential.

• Anti-Ageing – The skin is the most important site of HA activity in our body, with approximately 50% of it is found in the skin, and contributes to proper viscosity of synovial fluid and vitreous gel of the eye  Hyaluronic acid and collagen are vital to maintaining the skin’s layers and structure. It is the collagen that gives the skin its firmness but it is the HA that nourishes and hydrates the collagen. • Wound Healing - HA is a regulator of the wound healing process and provides the needed structural nutrition to form a matrix of new tissue.  It is a crucial component to skin tissue reconstruction following trauma.  Chondroitin sulphate has been shown to raise HA production in the body, with large doses successfully rebuilding and healing cardiac tissue.
• Anti-arthritic – HA acts as a cushion for bones. With its high lubrication and cushioning effect, it resists compression and allows the joints to bear weight and withstand tension.
