oildrums CleansingThe fast pace of life, hurried meals, processed food, chemical toxins and much more mean that our bodies are becoming increasingly polluted by toxins. These toxins collect in various places and organs in the body and sometimes we can benefit by pro actively giving the body some support and encouragement to rid ourselves of these unhelpful things.
This process is called many things but in essence it is simply a bit of housekeeping or spring cleaning for the body. There are many people who would try to sell you detox kits, cleansing programmes, liver cleanse herbs and much more – in fact the ‘cleansing or detox’ market is worth billions – it is big business and that should set the alarm bells ringing.

So what would you benefit from getting rid of on a periodic basis:

  • undigested food – impacted in the colon
  • chemicals in the liver and in other organs and fat cells in particular
  • chemicals in the kidney
  • mucous past it’s sell by date
  • lung congestion
  • oxidised fats
  • free radicals

So where do you start and what do you need to take into consideration.

Step 1 drink more clean water

  • Tap water is OK but if you live in a large or medium city the water from the tap will often contain chlorine and possibly fluoride and most probably low level chemical residue that has not been removed by waste water processing plants.
  • Bottled water – a little better but still contains harmful chemicals especially if in plastic bottles.
  • Filtered water – better still than the tap or bottled water but some filters only remove chlorine and particle. The best form of water filter will also remove trace chemicals and other chemicals.

Step 2 eat only the best food

  • fresh fruit and vegetables from the supermarket are OK and better than processed food (cooking destroys nutrients)
  • buy organic fruit and vegetables in season
  • grow your own if you can
  • lean how to prepare fruits and vegetable so as not to add to your chemical load

Step 3 exercise

use supplementation intelligently – high quality, plant based antioxidants are a good place to start as they aid the body getting rid of free radicals. Cheap vitamins and minerals are unlikely to have any positive effect.

So you’ve decided that you want to do a  cleanse. Start by increasing your water intake and reduce the processed food element of your diet. Add simple things like a splash of lemon juice to the water you drink – the effect is very helpful and the taste is even better.
