Digestive Enzymes

The subject of digestive enzymes is so poorly understood by even the most educated people that it’s worth taking the time here to expand our knowledge.

The primary digestion of all food involves digestive enzymes. Bacteria and other processes are involved but in the main it starts with enzymes.

The enzymes that start the digestive process on protein are called protease. The enzymes that work on lactose are called Lactase enzymes. Notice that many enzymes end in ‘ase’ or ’sin’. Here are some more: Amalyse, Protease, Glucoamylase, Malt Diastase, Pectinase, Lipase, Cellulase, Invertase, Lactase, Bromelain.

You can be eating the best food in the world but unless you can absorb the digested food then the benefits are nil. One of the major health issues that face the population today is the decreasing enzyme activity as we age. There are very few studies in this area but the evidence suggests that our digestive enzyme activity falls steadily from our mid 20s and by the time we are 60+ years old our enzyme activity levels are probably less than 30% what they were in our 30s. This would account for the number of people, who with advancing years seem to eat as much as they ever did but don’t put on weight – in fact they tend to lose it. Others report feeling bloated and a build up of gas which again points to digestive insufficiency. In other words we are eating but not digesting food. Get the digestion working better and the health improves by leaps and bounds. The solution use a good quality multiphase digestive enzyme – please e mail me for our recommendations.
